    A study was performed with 96 pregnant and obese women. They were examined in two groups. 39 of those women dieted and exercised regularly to control their weight and the remaining 57 women were asked to continue with their regular diet course work. 

    Among the pregnant women, those who exercised were made to ride a stationary cycle or walk on a treadmill at least once a week. They were also made to follow other exercise routines the rest of the week. Nearly half the women in the group worked out for at least 30 minutes a day and five times a week.

    Evidently, the women who exercised and followed a proper diet lost weight when compared to their counterparts, who followed a standard diet.

    The study revealed that the babies born to those who had to lose weight during pregnancy were of normal size. Those born to women who followed a standard diet were bigger and heavier around 8 pounds, 8 ounces.

    Also more number of women, who gained weight during pregnancy, delivered their babies by Caesarian section compared to those who were made to lose weight during pregnancy.

    It is not enough to just exercise. Pregnant women should also have a healthy diet which can catch up with the body’s priority to supply nutrition to the fetus and also balance the nutrition for their body as well. 

    Finally, it is also mandatory to visit your gynecologist regularly when you are pregnant. Obviously, the health of the mother and that of the baby are very important. Exercise appears to be beneficial to both mom and the fetus, but it is always advised to check with your physician before starting an exercise program.
